چکیده

As a daily life experience, when stirring cup of tea or coffee, one may observe vortices induced by the starting and stopping motion spoon. This paper investigated annular unsteady disk in water from experimental measurements numerical simulations. The circulation core radius are shown to scale with power laws diameter, stroke length, time agreement inviscid theoretical predictions.

Sound Generated by a Pair of Axisymmetric Coaxial Vortex Rings

The time-dependent acoustic field generated by the mutual interaction of a pair of coaxial viscous vortex rings advecting along a common axis of symmetry is simulated using a two-step numerical procedure. In the first step, the flowfield is predicted by solving the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. In the second step, Powell’s vortex sound theory is used to predict the far-field acoustic ...

Optimizing a Start-Stop System

Many people are working on improving the efficiency of car's engines. One approach to maximizing efficiency has been to create start-stop systems. These systems shut the car's engine off when the car comes to a stop, saving fuel that would be used to keep the engine running. However, these systems introduce additional energy costs, which are associated with the engine restarting. These energy c...

A New Technique for the Calculation of Colliding Vortex Rings

The present study involves a novel computational technique, regarding simultaneous use of the pseudo particle method, Poisson integral method and a special-purpose computer originally designed for molecular dynamics simulations (MDGRAPE-3). In the present calculations, the dynamics of two colliding vortex rings have been studied using the vortex method. The present acceleration technique allows...
